Cheers, all.
Thanks for using valuable clickage time down here in the deepest,
darkest depths of the RTHK web space.
We're very pleased to be able to offer you, through
the wonder that is
modern groovy streaming, a batch of highs, lows and really shouldn't
have's from the daily radio gig. Just scroll down and choose
from the
bits and bites below.
I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I enjoyed
scrubbing them
off my hard drive.
Bookmark us and come back again soon, why don't you.
1 MTR Song

A ride on the underground Mass Transit Railway taking in a set of stations in order, kind of going around in a circle (closer to a sort of number '9' shape, actually). What? I was bored. Turned out to be a well Googled hit!
2 Horrible

A playlist highlight. Feel free to sing along.
3 Wanna Be Building Something

The old Kai Tak airport. Tamar. West Kowloon. A huge park with a huger canapé over it. What? Plans and protests, what's to be built where, why, who by? And, I'm sorry, what was that reason again?
4 Hand Me The Sun Lotion

Ode to an English glow in the dark complexion. Or, my Bar Tan as I prefer to call it.
5 Hazy
More than just a major, daily concern……it’s a way of life.
Don’t say Thick, Filthy Pollution……..say Haze!
6 Squeezing On A Packed Train

A tune for the trek home.
7 Lousy Umberella

I lose ‘em, I buy ‘em, they fall apart. Why not just stick with the rolled up newspaper when it drizzles?
8 I Won't Subscribe

I’ve got loads and loads of tv channels to choose from and yet there’s NOTHING on tv tonight.
9 We Didn't Learn The Language
What do you mean you don’t speak fluent Cantonese? How long have you lived here?
10 World Cup 2006

The world cup 2006 hit us in so many different ways. For me, it was at any corner store or fast food outlet my family and I might visit, we would be given a fabulous free little plastic world cup related something or rather to collect. I almost got a full collection of each, too.
11 Yes, Today

They were about to announce the ‘final’ plans for … I dunno …one of the areas around town that’s been just sitting there waiting for someone to completely mess up for the people of Hong Kong. The newspapers couldn’t wait to get the first shot of the lovely wooden model that had been lovingly crafted to go on display at a news conference. They grabbed a shot of it in the hands of the delivery guys in the car park still fresh in it’s bubble wrap.
My great uncle Ian, who has lived in Hong Kong since the black and white days, isn’t
keen on this one. Too many words squeezed awkwardly into song.
And I thought it brought a tear to his eye for a completely different reason.
Tough crowd, I tell you.
12 You Tube

The web phenomenon put to a tune from ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’.
13 Always Sound Like Poo
Part A.M. reception whinge, part promo for the radio show. I needed to fill 2 minutes, leave off.
14 Charge Me More
During 2006 some strange things seemed to be happening in our banks. Handling fees, increased charges for other services, regular branches becoming exclusive business accounts only outlets. All while the news are coincidentally reporting record profits for the banks. Hey, bring it on! Charge me more! Please!
15 Every Day

Reclaim, build up, build out. “Hong Kong will be lovely when it’s finished….”
16 Hole In The Wall
Credit cards, ATM’s and Pink Floyd. Starring Alyson Hau on credit card and Hugh Chiverton key’s (true!)
17 Imagine The 7's
Imagine one of THE premier Rugby tournaments. Imagine 40,000 people from all over the world, gathered in one stadium without a hint of trouble.
24 national representative sides competing.
3 days of walking around in an oversized Scooby Doo outfit, wreeking of stale beer and pie. Just brilliant.
18 Legco Legco Legco

Concerns of the day put to our Legislative Council in song.
19 Mooncake

Re-working of a Van the man classic dedicated to a yummy seasonal treat that some of us find a bit of a challenge.
20Post Handover Album
Taking samples of the fine, fine work of Lilly Allen,
Paris Hilton and Fergie to make silly references to Sir Donald, our
cable car system and Chep Lap Kok airport.
21 Screaming In The Rain
I dread rainy days in HK as the streets instantly turn into a brolly battleground.
22 Smoking In The Street
The phenomenon-the other hand that is the world smoking ban. And when I say ban, I mean partial.
23 Somewhere Over On Lantau
We used to take a lazy slow boat to Lantau island to visit a temple, a beach and have a seafood meal. Today, it’s the home of the airport, Disneyland and a …. smashing…. new cable car system.
24 Star Ferry In Central
Extended version of the original radio mix, guest starring Phil Whelan on lip-bone, recorded after the announcement that they were moving our ferry pier! We just don’t do change.
25 Tainted Grub
Recorded at the time of our third food scare!
26 Tall Man
A little old school RnB for all members of what some of us choose to call ‘The Normal Persons Club’ living in a city clearly not designed for people 6ft 6inches tall. Mind you’re head.
27 That's What Phones Are For
“Real communication’s SUCH a chore”
28 New James Blunt Album - #1
29 The Drill
No matter exactly WHERE they are in the building
I could swear they are renovating inches above my ceiling.
Every day. Accept Sunday. All my life.
I believe it may even be in my tenancy agreement.
30 All The Wrong Food
Anthem for the healthy.
31 Decoration Time
Hey, when exactly IS too early to put up the Christmas decorations?
Surely it’s at the start of the ‘Ber’ months………like September……..
32 Plastic Bag Holder
‘Park And Shop’ announced they were charging for plastic bags from now on. I believe it was something to do with saving the…….I dunno….Dolphins or something, any way, two full days into the campaign (I think) they changed it to going green in a different, more customer pleasing manner….giving away green coloured plastic shopping bags with a nice earth friendly message on the side….rendering this particular ditty almost immediately out of date!
33 Taxi Man
All these years I had no idea how many people were apparently negotiating their taxi fares with the drivers.
The paper carried the story of how the taxi drivers wanted to level that off and up the flag fare together with a lovely graph of how various taxi company’s operate around the world.
This was recorded before the fare increase was finally approved.
34 Big Old Slimey Toad
I do not like creepy crawlies. They, on the other hand, seem to like
me. When I visit friends out on the islands or in the New Territories
I appear to be a magnet for Hong Kong’s national geographic wildest.
35 The State Of Tsim Sha Tsui
For as long as most people have lived in Hong Kong, Kowloon's top tourist shopping spot has always been under construction. Like they say, Hong Kong will be lovely when it's finished.
36 A Kind Of Slush
Air that you can see, taste and touch. What’s not to like?
37 Windy
The Typhoon Song
38 Walkin' Into Me
Great game to play if bored whilst out for a stroll in Hong Kong. Try, just TRY and walk in a straight line. Good luck.
39 Everybody's Gone Bowtie
When Sir Donald Tsang became our new leader his distinctive bow tie for every occasion appeared all over town in all shapes and sizes. (All 'sounds' for this one produced by Steve's mouth -!!- with a special lyrical contribution in the middle by Hugh Chiverton).
40 Trolley
They are phasing out the good old Dim-Sum trolley that carries our lunchtime favourites and it ain’t right!
41 What A Difference E-Bay Makes
42 Under TST
Here’s the thing. I might not like change very much, but, you know, I get on with it. Top Kowloon haunt Tsim Sha Tsui is changing all the time. All I wanna do is to be able to cross the road. To get to the other side. Where I want to go. Due to change, in order to cross almost anywhere in TST I now have to venture underground into a whole new and growing underworld. What with the disorientation and frustration it’s all way too much energy wasted cutting into valuable drinking time.
43 James Blunt - #2
44 Ho-Dong Song
When the temperature drops a little in Hong Kong a great number of Malls, offices and restaurants just don’t get it!
