Police 'raid Tibetan monastery'

23-04-2011

Tibetan rights campaigners say two people have been killed during a police raid on a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Sichuan province.

The International Campaign for Tibet says those who died were attempting to prevent the police from arresting more than 300 monks at the Kirti monastery.

Tension has been high since a monk set himself on fire last month in an apparent anti-government protest.

Foreigners have been prevented from travelling to the region.
