The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority is understood to have found a new chief executive, following the controversial resignation of Graham Sheffield in January. Sources say the post will go to Michael Lynch, a director of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and the former chief executive of London's Southbank Centre and the Sydney Opera House.

However, there could be further controversy because it's reported the Australian will be paid more than Mr Sheffield.

Mr Lynch is reported to have been the favoured candidate in a recruitment exercise in 2009, but he could not take up the job for family reasons.
