President Hu Jintao has told
aides to US President Barack
Obama that he wants to see
healthy and stable ties
between the two countries.
Mr Hu's talks in Beijing,
with the US National Economic Council chairman, Larry Summers, and the US Deputy National Security Adviser, Thomas Donilon, was said to be unusual because the president rarely meets visitors
ranked lower in diplomatic
protocol.
The talks follow
months of discord over trade
imbalances, Chinese currency
policies and US arms sales to Taiwan. President Hu is expected to
visit the US early next year.
