Officials in Guangdong have
launched a campaign to
sterilise nearly 10,000 people as part of a crackdown
on parents who violate
family-planning rules. A local
newspaper says authorities in
the city of Puning are
targeting 9,500 people who are
considered the most severe
violators of family planning
policies. So far, it says,
half the couples targeted have
agreed to be sterilised.
