The wife of one of China's
best known dissidents says a
request for a medical parole
for her jailed husband has
been rejected. Zeng Jinyan
appealed last week to the
Beijing prison authorities,
saying her husband, Hu Jia,
has a serious disease she
fears could turn into liver
cancer. But a prison hospital
doctor told Mr Hu's mother
that the request has been
tuned down and Mr Hu has been
moved from the prison hospital
back to his cell. He is
serving a three-and-a-half
jail term for sedition.
