Millions of people are facing
shortages of drinking water in
southwestern China because of
a once-in-a-century drought.
The Global Times says the
drought has gripped large
areas of Guizhou, Yunnan and
Sichuan provinces, as well as
the huge municipality of
Chongqing. The paper says
Guizhou has been particularly
badly hit, with 86 of its 88
cities located in the drought
zone.
