The Secretary for Food and Health, York Chow, has urged vegetable wholesalers to show evidence that people are smuggling uncertified mainland vegetables into Hong Kong. The wholesalers allege that legitimate farmers are selling certificates of origins to other growers who in turn bring in vegetables of questionable quality at a lower price. They're calling on the government to crack down on the practice. But Dr Chow said the government hadn't noticed any signs of smuggling taking place.
