Cuba welcomes Mexico's repatriation move

20-10-2008

The Cuban foreign minister, Felipe Perez Roque, has said that Mexico has agreed to return Cuban migrants who arrive in Mexico without legal papers - a move which would restrict the main exit route for Cubans fleeing the island. Mr Perez Roque announced the agreement, which is expected to be signed on Monday, on his arrival in Mexico City. He said the accord would help prevent people trafficking, and provide for the swift return of illegal Cuban migrants who try to use Mexico to get into the United States.
