China's ruling Communist Party
today approved a rural reform
plan that's expected to set
the country's economic policy
for the coming years. State
press reports said the plan,
which came at the close of a
four-day plenum, would allow
farmers to trade and mortgage
their right to land in an
effort to boost economic
growth and bolster the
nation's food security. The
move is part of a wider
package of reforms aimed at
reducing a gaping rural-urban
income gap that has expanded
during 30 years of capitalist
market policies. |
