Experts say valuable Beichuan monuments damaged

The State Administration of
Cultural Heritage says the
Sichuan earthquake has caused
severe damage to some valuable
monuments in the area. Experts
will be sent to Sichuan,
Chongqing, Shaanxi and Gangsu
provinces to carry out
restoration this coming week.
The administration said at
least 45 cultural heritage
sites under state protection
and 59 sites under provincial
government protection had been
damaged. At the same time,
state media say the whole of
Beichuan county, the epicentre
of the Sichuan earthquake, may
have to be rebuilt somewhere else - but didn't elaborate.
