The Liberal Party
chairman, James Tien, says he
supports the government - in
principle - in its drive to
enforce nutrition labelling of
pre-packaged foods. Speaking
on RTHK's Letter to Hong Kong,
Mr Tien says it's important
that people have as much
information as possible about
the food they eat, in order to
make the right choices.
However, he rejected a
suggestion by critics that by
persuading the government to
extend the exemption for small
quantity items with health
claims, the Party had
compromised people's health. Mr Tien stressed nutrition
labelling - in its original
form - would have deprived
multi-cultural Hong Kong of a
diversity of food.
