The head of the Catholic
Church in Hong Kong, Cardinal Joseph Zen, says China is not yet
ready for a visit by the Pope.
Italy's ANSA news agency
quoted Cardinal Zen as saying
that a papal visit would be
used and misunderstood, and
would do nothing to serve
mainland catholics. He also
said that nothing had changed
in China since Pope Benedict
sent a letter to the mainland
authorities asking for respect
for religious freedom.
Cardinal Zen also expressed
the hope that the Olympic
Games could bring about
change.
