US warns exporters of tighter scrutiny

The US has warned exporters they must be prepared to face closer scrutiny on quality and safety. Speaking during a visit to Shanghai, the US Health and Human Services Secretary, Mike Leavitt, said their needed to be completely overhauled, noting that the US now planned to station inspectors in China and other countries. He warned that those countries that weren't prepared to meet US standards would find themselves under increased scrutiny. Mr Leavitt is due to meet later today with China's health minister to discuss various including a viral outbreak that's killed at least 34 children and sickened thousands.
