The US has warned exporters
they must be prepared to face
closer scrutiny on quality and
safety. Speaking during a
visit to Shanghai, the US
Health and Human Services
Secretary, Mike Leavitt, said
their needed to be completely
overhauled, noting that the US
now planned to station
inspectors in China and other
countries. He warned that
those countries that weren't
prepared to meet US standards
would find themselves under
increased scrutiny. Mr Leavitt
is due to meet later today
with China's health minister
to discuss various
including a viral outbreak
that's killed at least 34
children and sickened thousands.
