A major earthquake has just
struck Sichuan province, less
than 100-kilometres from the
provincial capital, Chengdu.
According to the US Geological
Survey, the tremor measured
seven-point-eight on the
Richter Scale just before
two-thirty, local time. As
yet, there've been no
communications from the area,
but the quake has been felt
thousands of kilometres away.
People as far away as Beijing
and Shanghai report that
office buildings swayed.
Similar reports are also
coming in from Bangkok and
Taiwan. ¡õ
And the Hong Kong Observatory
has just issued an urgent
earthquake message saying that
people in to say they felt the
tremor at 2.31pm. The
Observatory says it's now
analysing its data and will
issue a statement shortly.
