The government has been urged to increase statutory holidays from 12 to 17-days by including five extra public holidays. The Confederation of Trade Unions says that under current practice, employers can force their staff to work on five of the holidays, including Buddha's birthday, Easter and Boxing day. But unionist lawmaker, Lee Cheuk-yan, said this was unfair and he has moved a private member's bill to change the legislaltion.
