Cathay and Dragonair launch carbon offset scheme

2007-12-19 HKT 22:10

Cathay Pacific and its sister airline, Dragonair, have become the first Asian airlines to introduce a voluntary scheme for passengers to offset carbon emissions generated from their journeys. Passengers can use their air miles or pay cash to contribute to the programme. The amount charged will be based on actual emissions, flight distance and class of travel. For example, an economy class round trip between Hong Kong and Taipei will cost about 11 Hong Kong dollars, while travellers to New York will be charged about $165. The contributions will be put into a wind farm project near Shanghai.
