The environmental group, Greenpeace, has warned of what it sees as the danger to the climate posed by widescale land clearance in Indonesia linked to booming demand for palm oil production. Palm oil is an ingredient in all sorts of food and also a bio-fuel added to diesel for cars. But Greenpeace said the burning and destruction of forests and the clearing of peat wetlands was causing a massive release of carbon dioxide. It called for the destruction to stop.
