China says consumer inflation at 6.5% in August

China's inflation hit 6.5 per cent in August - the highest monthly rate in more than a decade - driven by an 18 per cent surge in food prices over the same month a year ago. According to data just released, prices of pork and other meat surged 49 per cent. August's inflation was the highest since December 1996, and an increase over July's 5.6 per cent rate.
