Philippines to strike against Islamist insurgents

The Philippines army is
reportedly poised to launch an
all-out offensive against
Islamist insurgents, in one of
their strongholds on the
island of Basilan. On Monday,
president Gloria Arroyo
pledged to step up efforts to
secure lasting peace in the
south of the country, where a
Muslim insurgency is being
fought.
