Octopus cards blunder remains a mystery

2007-03-02 HKT 14:43

Investigations have failed to discover why money was deducted from many accounts without crediting Octopus cards topped up through the Electronic Pricing System. An update of the EPS was originally suspected as the cause, but this has been rejected by the operators. Octopus has now commissioned the international accounting and consulting firm, Price Waterhouse Coopers, to carry out an independent investigation, which is expected to take about four months. Legislators who discussed the issue today expressed concern that the 571 reported cases were merely the tip of the iceberg.
