The government says it has no plans to ban the use of trans fats in food products. This came after lawmakers expressed concern that the substance increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. New York City has already imposed a ban on trans fats in all restaurants. Speaking through an intrepreter, the Health Secretary, York Chow, said it was difficult to implement a ban, but the government would introduce a nutritional labelling scheme in future.
