Huang Mengla Johnny Poon Yuki Ip Carol Lin City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong Chorus of Opera Society Hong Kong In the spectacular starlit setting of Hong Kong Park, the multi award-winning violinist Huang Mengla will join 300 Hong Kong singers and musicians in a performance of Antonio Vivaldi’s magnificent Gloria and the ever-popular Four Seasons in RTHK Radio 4’s “Seasons Greetings in the Park” on Christmas Eve (December 24, 2006). The concert is open to the public, so please come and join us at the Olympic Square of Hong Kong Park at 5pm to enjoy an unforgettable Christmas experience. For its annual Christmas event “Seasons Greetings in the Park”, RTHK Radio 4 has invited Dr. Johnny Poon, HKBU Artistic Director of Performance Activities, to be the conductor of the concert. He will lead a group of 300 first-class musicians, including the world-renowned Chinese violinist Huang Mengla, four distinguished soloists, soprano Yuki Ip, mezzo soprano Carol Lin, tenor Richard Frewer, bass Kwan Kit-ming, the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong and the Chorus of the Opera Society of Hong Kong, together with an additional combined chorus formed by the Carmel Pak U Secondary School Choir, Diocesan Girls’ School Choir, HKIEd Chorus, The Learners Chorus, Rosaryhill School (secondary Section) Choir, Singchronizers and the Wah Yan College, the Kowloon Boys’ Choir, in a programme of masterpieces by Antonio Vivaldi. The works making up the core of the programme are the celebrated Four Season and the Gloria. The Four Seasons is Vivaldi’s best-known work and is widely recognized as one of the jewels of the Baroque period. The work actually comprises four concertos illustrating the character of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter; while Gloria is Vivaldi’s most famous religious work. Members of the public are warmly invited to take part in the concert by singing along with these outstanding musicians in a selection of traditional Christmas carols. “Seasons Greetings in the Park” is an open-air concert performed by professional singers and musicians and brimming with enchanting Christmas melodies. It’s a unique Christmas experience that should not be missed! RTHK Radio 4’s “Seasons Greetings in the Park” will take place on December 24, 2006 in the Olympic Square, Hong Kong Park (5pm – 6:30pm).
