近年年終時分，第四台都會跳出直播室，為市民精心策劃不同類型的免費戶外演出。繼2003年在香港文化中心露天廣場舉行「包以正與友人」爵士音樂會，又連續兩年在山頂舉行「美樂飄飄山頂行」後，今年我們會移師香港公園，聯同三百位音樂精英，舉行「聖誕園林音樂會 -彌賽亞」，為你帶來大合唱的震憾！
除了音樂廳和教堂之外，還可以到哪_感受合唱的感染力？今年平安夜，第四台為你提供多一個選擇 --香港公園的奧林匹克廣場。在十二月廿四日的黃昏時段，我們邀請了多位音樂家，包括指揮潘明倫、女高音葉葆菁、假聲男高音蔡文燦、男高音柯大衛、男低音孟浩文 (Brian Montgomery)，還有香港歌劇社合唱團和香港城市室樂團，一起演出韓德爾的不朽神劇《彌賽亞》中，描述聖嬰降生的第一部份，亦會選唱第二部份的《哈利路亞大合唱》及充滿節日氣氛的聖誕歌曲，與每位聽眾歡渡佳節。
如何令這次演出更具特色？首先考慮到的，當然是音樂演繹本身。貴為歷史上最受歡迎的神劇，韓德爾的《彌賽亞》只有一套，但經不同音樂家編輯和修訂的樂譜版本卻不少。像莫扎特修訂的版本中就加重了管樂的份量，帶來更宏大的氣派。而合唱團的演唱陣容更「可大可小」，以三、四十人演唱的形式有，以數百甚至過千的強大陣容演唱亦非常流行。最後我們還是選擇了偏向原典的樂譜版本，以室樂團編制和中型合唱團形式演出，亦邀請假聲男高音擔任獨唱之一；但配合戶外演出較空曠的音效，我們特別邀請了本港六隊出色合唱隊伍組成超過二百人的聯合合唱團，他們會加入演唱其中幾段，將音樂中宏偉的氣勢盡情表現。
以香港夜景和香港公園的自然景緻為背景，配合三百人龐大陣容演出韓德爾最受歡迎的神劇和多首最合時宜的聖誕歌，而且入場費全免！我們誠邀你出席這場園林音樂會，感受最特別的平安夜。
Get ready for a heart-lifting and joyful Christmas! Messiah in the Park, presented by RTHK Radio 4, will take place on Christmas Eve in the Olympic Square of Hong Kong Park. Come along to listen to Handel’s most celebrated piece, Messiah, live.
Handel’s Messiah, the unique creation in the long music history, has been revised numerous times since its existence. The composer revised for every different occasion, and composers to follow, like Mozart, made it grader by using larger orchestras. The chorus size is even more sizeable, ranging from tens to thousands. We decided to use a version close to Handel’s original, with a 300-member chorus joined by the Hong Kong Opera Society Chorus and six other outstanding choruses.
The concert will start at 5pm. You can hear all of part I of Messiah, and from part II the most famous chorus of all — Hallelujah. There will be Christmas carols as well, with the orchestra! Just take a walk there and enjoy the get experience of a unique Christmas Eve.
